 As they say, one of the secrets of a man’s or a woman’s success lies on how he or she chooses a partner. If your partner soars with you through greater heights, is happy and proud of your success, someone who is secure about himself-- then, wagi ka! Sa ganitong criteria pasok ang tandem ng mag-asawang Mayor Richard Gomez at Congw. Lucy Torres-Gomez na hindi lang ideal couple sa mundo ng showbiz kundi pati sa kanilang constituents sa Ormoc City, Leyte.

Lucy started her political career when she ran for congress in 2016 and won the congressional seat in the 4th District of Leyte. She, who is known to be soft spoken, compassionate, intelligent and level headed won the hearts of the Ormocanons on her first try to run for Congress marahil dahil alam ng mga tao na malaki ang maitutulong ni Congw. Lucy sa probinsya nila.

Even during the peak of his career as an actor, Richard already showed interest in public service.

 In the 90’s, he spearheaded MAD (Mamamayan Ayaw Sa Droga), the youth movement campaigning against illegal drugs, and other sports related activities . And in 2016, he won the mayoralty race and is now doing an awesome job for the people of Ormoc.

 Kilala si Mayor Richard bilang isang disiplinadong tao kaya maswerte ang mga 

 taga Ormoc sa pamamalakad ni Mayor Goma kaya siguradong merong peace and order sa kanilang lugar.


 Despite his busy schedule, Richard makes sure to end his day doing simple things for his family. Cooking for his lovely daughter Juliana is something he does best, also making sure she is safely home with her family. Ganoon din kay Congw. Lucy, super asikaso rin siya ng asawang mayor.

 On his free time, he personally feeds his “alagas”- dogs, turtles, geese, chicken, turkey and other animals that roam around freely in their backyard.

Richard loves to cook and he experiments on recipes that turn out to be tasty dishes. Bongga ang al fresco dining area nina Richard at Lucy na may kitchen, napaka-aliwalas tingnan. Parang ang sarap magluto araw-araw ‘pag ganoon ka presko sa kusina mo, di ba?

 Patuloy naman ang pagtaas ng bilang ng subscribers ng You Tube Channel ni Goma and all the pleasant comments show he is making it right as a family man and a public servant.

 Maswerte ang Ormoc, dahil bongga ang tandem ng mag-asawang Mayor Richard at Congw. Lucy.

Suportado nila ang isa’t isa and at the same time hindi sila ‘yung nakikialam sa diskarte na ginagawa ng bawat isa for their constituents.

 This, I think, is enough to make Ormoc shine.

 Show business is a world of its own. The glitter and glamour makes you forget reality once you step into the red carpet where all the lights shine brightly, it’s as if you are stepping into a different dimension.

 Ganito ang naramdaman ko nu’ng baguhan akong reporter more than two decades ago pero masaya akong binabalik-balikan ang mga araw namin sa showbiz dahil kahit madalas ngarag kami sa deadlines, showbiz personalities then were very open and accommodating and even studios for tapings were lenient for press people to visit the artistas that time.

StarNews  movie magazine.

  That same time youth oriented shows were launched and a new batch of stars was introduced.

 Masuwerte ako dahil we were trained and sent to field work to interview artistas sa mga tapings, shootings and in the luxury of their home where we can relax while they warmly welcome us with cooked meals and chika-chika. Ganoon ka- personalized ang relasyon noon ng mga artista at movie reporters.

 STARS AND TAPINGS. Then and Now We were taping tambays in the mid-90’s until 2010. As far as I can remember, it was around this time that studios became strict already and followed different network guidelines. On location, tapings were scheduled at hindi na puwedeng basta-basta na lang lumusot na walang pasabi unlike before na mismong artista ang nag-iinvite. Now, it’s different. Talent management was professionalized and everything had to be done formally and kailangan may advance notice sa mga handler/manager ng mga artists.

 Sabi nga ng isang kasamahan namin sa panulat, masarap balikan ang mga panahong simple pa noon ang showbiz. Na nakakasama pa natin ang mga artista na walang kiyems, ngayon kasi iba na.

HOW STARS ARE TODAY.  In fairness, hindi naman lahat ng artista sa ngayong panahon eh dedma. Okay naman sila, they are very civil, respectful and courteous sa mga press. Pero wala na ‘yung personal na relasyon sa kanila. I’m speaking from experience, hindi ko alam sa iba kung hanggang ngayon na -establish nila ‘yung gaya ng relasyon ng mga artista sa reporters nu’ng 80’s and 90’s. But of course, as long as they are courteous, okay lang.

Iba na rin kasi ang mga stars at kabataan ngayon, di ba? Millenial na ang isip at kilos.

  MEMORABLE MOMENTS AT WORK. Oh, kung iisa-isahin ko, marami. I’ll just write down a few na minsan eh, ‘pag naalala ko napapangiti ako dahil mababait sa akin ang mga taong nakasama ko sa aking showbiz journey.

Well, unforgettable ‘yung mga biglaang out of town invites by the late great talent manager Douglas Quijano. Ang mga late night tapings sa ABS-CBN studios na tatlong shows ang aming pinupunahan para mag-interbyu, pictorial at makipag-chikahan. After that, we’d eat meryenda with Star Magic talents- Bojo Molina, Jericho Rosales and Rico Yan at kuwentuhang kaswal lang. Nakakatuwa ring balikan ang ngarag days ‘pag pupunta kami sa tapings ng TGIS para interbyuhin sina Bobby Andrews, Onemig Bondoc, Michael Flores at Red Strenberg tapos lilipat sa isang location para puntahan ang mga bida ng GIMIK na sina Rico, Judy Ann Santos, Jolina Magdangal at Marvin Agustin.

 When reporters would gather in Palibhasa Lalake studio during tapings and we’d have dinner after tapings, it became a Thursday habit until the show’s last day of taping sometime in 1999.

 Of course, showbiz parties were then well-attended. Kung sino ang ka-close ng reporter na artista, siguradong present sa mga okasyon at parties ng celebrant. These are just a few of the many wonderful memories I have as a showbiz reporter that to this day makes me smile even if a lot has already changed. Oh, the good old days!

 Nag-celebrate ng kanilang 22nd wedding anniversary sina Richard Gomez at Lucy Torres last April 28.

Ang mag-asawa ay pareho nang public servant sa Ormoc City at may isang anak, si Juliana.
Simpleng gift lang ang binigay ni Ormoc City Mayor Goma sa kanyang wifey na si Lucy, ang Congresswoman ng 4th District ng Leyte.

Ibinahagi ni Richard sa kanyang social media account ang lovely picture nilang mag-asawa na ang caption ay he and his wife Lucy Torres decided to plant a Dita tree to celebrate their 22nd wedding anniversary.

For Lucy’s part sa kanyang IG, ibinahagi naman niya ang wedding video nila ni Richard nu’ng April 28, 1998.

Emotional message ang kanyang caption:

“I watch this clip from our wedding and always, it is a beautiful walk down that time in our love story. Thank you for 22…”

“You enter a room and you just bring the sunshine in. With you, everything is just better. Know that you are my love song, every bit of that magic I ever believed in.

“Some years back I realized I had all these raw files from our wedding festivities, as covered by ABS-CBN back then. Around that time also I had just met Jason Magbanua whose work we featured in ‘The Sweet Life,’ a show I was hosting then with Wilma Doesnt and Iza Calzado. I so loved his work, and on a whim asked if he could put something together in a fresh video that I could give Richard as an anniversary present. Thank you for this, Jason, this is precious.”

Pinasalamatan ni Congw. Lucy si Jason, ang tumulong na magprepare ng video para anniversary gift niya kay Richard kung saan ang pagkaka-describe ni Lucy sa mister ay ‘superman.’

 Action speaks louder than words.This is how Ormoc City Mayor Richard Gomez works on a day to day basis even before COVID-19 affected the lives of Filipinos nationwide. 

 Sa totoo lang, nu’ng una, nakukumpra pa si Mayor Richard sa ibang bagitong mayors na laging bida at pinupuri ng mga netizens sa social media. Well, it didn’t affect him at all, because he knows that his constituents believe in him and the work he puts in for the people of Ormoc.

Nitong nakaraang linggo laman ng balita si Mayor Goma dahil sa good vibes niyang dala hindi lamang sa mga Ormocanons kundi pati na sa buong bansa. Ito ay dahil sa pa-bigas ni Mayor. Aba, namigay siya ng tig-isang kabang (1 sack) bigas sa tig-isang household sa Ormoc at iba pang supplies na hindi na kailangang magpalista pa ng mga tao sa barangay o munisipyo. Katwiran ni Mayor Goma, ang ECQ o Enhanced Community Quarantine ay isang emergency state ng bansa. 

 Making a list is just a waste of time, baka matapos lang daw ang ECQ ay hindi pa matapos ang pamimigay ng donasyon.

 Puring-puri si Mayor Goma hindi lang ng taga Ormoc kundi pati ng ibang netizens worldwide. Ayan, mas lalong pressure ito sa ibang local officials na galingan pa ang performance nila lalo pa’t very observant at competitive na ang mga tao ngayong may social media na. Congrats again, Mayor Goma!

Ang ECQ o lockdown ay panahon din ng pagpapakita ng malasakit sa kapwa at pagsi-share ng blessings. Siyempre, kanya-kanyang kuwento ng donasyon ang mga artista para sa mga kababayan at frontliners nating in need. 

 Isa si Ara Mina sa iilan who generously and willingly gives her time, resources and effort to those affected by this lockdown at maging sa mga ospital sa Manila at Luzon ay nagbibigay si Ara ng donasyong pagkain, gamot at iba pang supplies.

Last week, Ara thought of giving away some cosmetics at kasama ito sa kanyang self care kit for her two chosen hospitals. Ito ay bukod pa sa food, masks at iba pang binibigay niya. 

 May ilang nag-appreciate pero may isang nurse na hindi nagustuhan at nag-comment pa sa post ni Ara na, “Thank you. But at this point, make up is not on top of priorities. Food is more essential for their daily needs.

 ” Nagpaliwanag si Ara na ito ay gift at bonus na sa mga items kasama ng food na naunang ipinamigay niya. Sadly, na-misinterpret ito ng ibang tao. Haaay.

 Aliw kami sa vlog ni BB Gandanghari sa You Tube huh. Living alone sa Los Angeles CA si BB at ngayong lockdown pa rin doon, she makes use of her time cooking, doing household chores and running errands. (I watch her show on YouTube. Nakakaaliw-Ed).

How true, dedma daw ang mga kamag-anak niya sa kanya nung na fake news na pumanaw na siya? As in, wala man lang daw may nakaalalang kamustahin siya even through private messaging sa social media? Ayun, kaya emote si BB pero bilib kami kasi matatag pa rin siya. Go, girl!

Prenuptial Agreement: Pera at yaman ba ang dahilan?

 There are many reasons why couples or their families enter into prenuptial agreement, but basically, the main reason concerns the ownership of respective assets. As much as possible gusto ng bawat kampo, pero mostly side ng babae, na hindi madehado or maging kawawa ang magpapakasal. So, whatever happens to the marriage hindi maapektuhan ng kasal ang bawat asset ng isa’t isa.

Ilan sa mga natatandaan ko na nag-sign ng prenuptial agreement ay sina Chiz Escudero at Heart Evangelista, AiAi Delas Alas at Gerald Sibayan, Doctora Vicki Belo at Hayden Kho, at Mayor Richard Gomez at Congresswoman Lucy Torres. Pero ang mas tumatak sa akin ay kay Richard Gomez ng magpakasal sya kay Lucy Torres. Alam naman ng lahat na ang pamilya ng Torres ay isa sa mga mayayaman pamilya. Lalo na nung time pa ng kasikatan ni Richard Gomez. Kaya naman nung ihatid ni Goma si Lucy sa altar ay walang 2nd thought na pinirmahan ni Goma ang agreement dahil para sa kanya buo ang kanyang damdamin para patunayan na mahal nya si Lucy Toress na ngayong ay Congresswoman. This bold move only proves that he is there for the love.

Ito ay opposite naman sa ginawa ng couple na AshMat – Sarah Geronimo at Matteo Guidicelli - na kung saan ay hindi pumirma si Matteo at Sarah ng prenuptial agreement at sa halip ay nagpakasal ng patago. Kung ano man ang dahilan ay walang nakakaalam pero sana ginaya nya si Mayor Goma na pumirma ng prenuptial agreement upang patunayan ang kanyang hangarin na hanggang ngayon ay pinatutunayan ang pag-ibig kay Congresswoman Lucy sa kahit na anong paraan.
